We are proud to say that for our second year of the ISLA’s Junior Guard scholarship, we were blown away with the number of applicants we had! ISLA would like to thank everyone who applied and for sharing your inspiring videos with us. Our only regret is that we weren’t able to give every applicant a full junior lifeguard scholarship.
The winner of the 2013 scholarship is Lauren Schlick, a fifteen-year old girl from La Mirada, California. Having lost two family members to drowning, Lauren’s video essay was touching and inspiring. Lauren plans to travel the world to educate people about the ocean, and plans on having a career as a Marine Safety Officer.
We are excited and can’t wait to check in on Lauren throughout the summer season. We’ll be compiling a 4-part photo album series that highlights her junior lifeguard experience.
